Inspector Bob'Inspector Bob' is a fictitious character personifying the trials and tribulations of adventurous souls who end up in actual news headlines because of the situations they have placed themselves in through ignorance and/or indifference. Dog Mountain'Inspector Bob' was disappointed when he reached the snowy peak of Dog Mountain. It was only 10 a.m. and he had been snowshoeing less than two hours so he decided to do some exploring. He knew there were some wooded lowlands on the west side that would eventually lead him back to his vehicle.Three days later, as he lay in his bed at St. Paul's Hospital on New Year's Eve, he recalled this as one of the stupidest things he ever did. There was a light layer of powdery snow over a crusty base and it was slick - so slick that Inspector Bob had to remove his snowshoes. He struggled to stay on his feet, but he slipped and started sliding down a ravine. By the time he came to a stop, he was in a clearing 50 metres from where he had fallen. He was bruised, his shoulder was dislocated and his kneecap was broken. It was noon on Dec. 28 and Bob couldn't move. |

'I knew I was on the west face of Dog Mountain, I had a compass. I just made the stupid mistake of going over the steep side of
the mountain when I should have stayed in a flatter area'.
All he could do was sit and stay warm, and hope the searchers would find him before death did. |
